This was the challenge we faced with Uhambo Lwami, a children’s book project designed to resonate deeply with its audience. However at Aliment Design, we believe that great design transcends obstacles. We believe in the power of Putting the User First to turn constraints into opportunities for creativity and impact.

Our journey began with a vision: to create a children’s book that wasn’t just read, but felt and experienced. We immersed ourselves in discovery workshops, gathering insights that would anchor our design in the cultural and emotional landscape of Mbazwana. Through collaborative storyline development sessions with the team led by Dr Maud Mthembu, we crafted a narrative that spoke directly to the hearts of children and the local community.

 

The impact of Uhambo Lwami rippled far beyond our expectations. Local communities embraced the book, leading to its translation into five additional local languages. Imagine a children’s book inspiring a 10-minute movie, local  and national newspaper mentions as well as captivating audiences on national TV.
